Ready to spring into action?
I’m so happy spring is on its way. Aren’t you? I get motivated to clean out, freshen up, and organize my home in the spring. I’m not sure why this time of year motivates me, but I get the urge to get rid of stuff. Let me share some examples. I recycled boxes, bags, and glass jars that I thought I might use during the holiday season. I evaluated the food in my pantry, and brought some items to the food bank. I donated clothes that didn’t get worn last year. I cleaned out my folder that had appliance manuals in it, and got rid of 15 of them. I also removed the foreign language section of the 7 manuals I did keep, so the folder is not as bulky. This may seem like a lot of organizing to you, but if you tackle it a bit at a time, it’s doable. What do you think? Are you motivated to do some springtime organizing? If so, please share with me your projects.
Determining Value
Believe it or not, even Professional Organizers have a difficult time getting rid of some stuff. I must admit that not all of my springtime organizing was easy. I honestly didn’t think I could do it, but I did. I tossed all my photo negatives.
- It has become too difficult to create a photo from a negative.
- It’s really easy to make a duplicate photo from an existing photo.
- While preparing for a class titled “Keep the Memories Not the Stuff” I realized I had to follow my own advice.
This has been a decision that I’ve been inching my way towards for a few year now. In fact at two separate times in the past I’ve attempted to get rid of all of my photo negatives, with minimal success. In the first attempt I got rid of the oldest negatives I owned from the 80’s. In the second attempt I got rid of photo negative that only had significance to me. This year was the third and final attempt, and all of my photo negatives were tossed. I’m pleased that I was able to follow my own advice and get rid of obsolete photo negatives.
Is there something that you struggle to get rid of? Please share.
