Happy Halloween!
What’s your favorite Halloween candy? I’ve always been a Snickers lover, but my new favorite is Dark Reese’s Thins. They’er the right balance of chocolate and peanut butter. Yum! Hope you have a sweet Halloween.
Once the sugar rush fades, the year-end holiday season begins! Below, you’ll find some helpful holiday travel tips, and be sure to check out my upcoming Tips of the Month on my website for more holiday organizing advice.
Tips for Holiday Travel
Whether you’re traveling near or far, by plane, train, bus, or car, a little planning will earn you a gold star.
- Book flights and car rental as early as possible.
- Ensure your passport is valid for the entire duration of your trip.
- If flying, purchase comprehensive travel insurance. If driving or renting a car, make sure you have all your insurance details with you.
- Schedule pet sitting and be sure to confirm 1 month, 1 week, and 1 day in advance.
- Share your travel itinerary with relevant family members and friends.
- Stop mail and deliveries for when you’ll be away.
- Prepay any bills that will come due while away.
- Create a packing list. Check the weather forecast and tweak your list accordingly. Keep travel packing list inside suitcase to use next year.
- Pre-buy travel snacks and bring your own reusable water bottle.
- Charge all devices and power banks.
- Perform home safety precautions:
- Have someone come over to care for pets and water plants.
- Have a neighbor park in your driveway occasionally to diminish the deserted look while you’re away.
- Get timers to place in certain rooms to have lights turned on and off to give the illusion that someone is home.
- Empty fridge of items that won’t keep while you’re away. Take out trash. Adjust thermostat. Lock all windows.
Safe travels!
5 things to organize in the fall
- Kid’s toys. Anything that is no longer age appropriate – donate.
- Winter hats, gloves, scarves, and mittens. Sort through what was worn last year and what wasn’t. Donate what you can.
- Bikes and outdoor toys. Pass on what has been outgrown.
- Pantry. Consider donating surplus to a food pantry.
- Winter clothing. Recycle those moth eaten sweaters to Bay Sate Textiles.
