Hello!
How are you enjoying your summer? I hope you’re reconnecting with family and friends, as I am. It’s been nice being able to go to the beach with friends, go to the movies and drive-in, and hang out by my sister’s pool. However, it hasn’t been all play, I have been working. A common theme for my clients, at the moment, is to clean out and reduce down to a manageable amount.
You may be asking what I mean by a manageable amount. It’s when you have an amount that is…
- Not overwhelming
- Easy to maintain
- Quick to organize
- ENOUGH!
How many pot holders do you have? How many can you use at one time? You only have two hands. So, how many is enough? I know our society has programed us to believe that more is better, and that having a surplus on-hand is required for optimal household management. But I’d like to encourage you to challenge those thoughts, and ask yourself how many you really need. What is a manageable amount for you?
I’d like to propose an experiment. Write down how many you have of the following items.
bath towels
sets of sheets
coffee mugs
light bulbs
items on bathroom vanity
umbrellas
vases
items on daily to do list
pocketbooks
home improvement projects started
cleaning products
vacuums
sets of dishes
beach towels
spatulas
hats
containers for leftovers
craft projects started
open bottles of shampoo
conditioner
dish detergent
laundry detergent
hand soap
items on refrigerator
boxes of holiday decorations
salt & pepper shakers
pairs of glasses
flash lights
plastic bags from grocery store
Now go through the list again and write down the number that represents your manageable amount. How different are those numbers? How willing are you to reduce down to your manageable amount number? Try it for one or two items and see what you think. I’d like to hear how it works out. You may be surprised by how little you actually need.
Please note that everyone is different. For example if you’re not a coffee drinker you’ll have a different number of coffee cups than someone who is. Our possessions represent our personal lifestyle. So our numbers will be different than anyone else, but remember the less you have the less you have to organize and maintain.
Would you like to look at my list of manageable amount numbers?
I’d sincerely appreciate a review!
