Bring in Less

Organizing tipIn order to reduce clutter, we need to get rid of more than we bring in. Think like a mathematician, the rate at which we bring things in needs to be less than the rate at which we remove things.

Could you find me a spoon?

Organizing tipIf you invited me into your home could you find me a spoon? Of course, but what about a postage stamp, last year’s W2 form or tweezers? Are those things stored in a place that is easy to locate? Having a designated spot for things is the guiding principle of organization. So, treat every item as if it were a spoon and give it a designated storage spot.

A Space for Everything

Organizing tipThings without a place don’t belong in your space. I liked this catchy little phrase as soon as I heard it. It makes me think of Dr. Seuss and all the wonderful rhymes in his books. (His birthday is March 2nd, by the way.) However it’s not only catchy, it’s good, practical organizing advice. Establish a place for things, especially those things you use (and loose) all the time.

Monthly de-cluttering challenge

Organizing tipAs we start the new year, (Happy 2021!) I’d like to invite you to participate in my monthly de-cluttering challenge. For the month of January, remove 10 things that you have in your home as a result of an impulsive purchase. Some examples of impulse buys are gifts that we never gave, cute items that have no purpose, and sale items we don’t use.

Please share your items with me, and I’ll add you to the Monthly de-cluttering challenge email list. You’ll get an email on the fist of every month prompting you to get rid of something from your home. At the end of 2021 your home will be more organized and less cluttered.

Does that question scare you?
I’d like to reassure you that the list of things that I came up with isn’t scary. It’s a list of things
